Educational Background
Dr. Omar Hakim received his medical degree (cum laude) from the
University of Western Ontario in 1987, and completed his
ophthalmology residency at the Ivey Institute of Ophthalmology. He
has been practicing ophthalmology since 1992. He recently completed
a cornea fellowship at the Queen Victoria Hospital and the Centre
for Sight in East Grinstead, United Kingdom.
Refractive Experience
Dr. Hakim has been performing laser vision correction since 1994
and he is regarded as one of the leading international specialists
in refractive surgery. During his career, he has served as
principal clinical investigator for the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) in several wavefront guided technology
studies. He was also a consultant to the International Medical
Advisory Board for Alcon Laboratories.
Dr. Hakim is currently on staff at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial
Hospital, the Milton District Hospital and the Joseph Brant
Memorial Hospital, where he practices comprehensive ophthalmology.
Dr. Hakim performed laser vision correction at TLC clinics in
London, Waterloo, and Toronto, where he was medical director. At
the Herzig Eye Institute, he was chief of surgery for western
Ontario.
Accomplishments and Awards
Dr. Hakim is a well-respected lecturer who frequently gives talks
and presentations at ophthalmology conferences in Canada, the USA,
Europe and Asia. He has performed live surgical demonstrations at
the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of
Cataract and Refractive Surgery, VideoRefrattiva (Italy) and the
Canadian Ophthalmological Society.
Dr. Hakim has done extensive research projects in the field of
ophthalmology, with an emphasis on cornea and refractive surgery.
He has published numerous articles and acted as a reviewer on the
editorial review board of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive
Surgery. He is a contributing author for two of the world’s
best-selling laser vision correction textbooks.
